Career Day

Gloria Jones is known for her work on the prevention of occupational dysfunction for older adults and reducing health disparities. She has worked as an occupational therapist for 25 years and has made major contributions to help direct the profession to focus on quality functional-based assessment. She has published 5 books and many papers concerning occupational therapy. She also serves on  the Board of Trustees and chairs many research projects at Reliant Therapy Services. A primary focus of hers is to improve the quality of education for those entering the field.

Fire-fighting specialist Billy Reynolds was born on April 4th, 1983 in Houston, Texas. He is regularly called in as a troubleshooter to deal with major fires in the Houston area. In 2013, he and his men were one of the first responders on scene at the Southwestern Inn fire, and played one of the crucial roles in getting it under control. Another of his heroics include pulling 4 people from a burning car at a fire on the northwest freeway. He is currently the chief of the Houston Fire Department, who has put hundreds of fires under his leadership.

Eddie Garza is an abstract  American welder and sculptor. He is famous for using various styles of welding to create sculptures. His earlier works were created using a torch, but later he mastered his welding art with an electric arc welder. He utilizes various techniques for visual effects that look like paintings and makes his sculptures using steel, cast bronze and other metals. He is also an accomplished welder  who has worked at an auto manufacturing factory and in locomotive construction at different points in his life.

Mary Lin is a professor of nursing and director of the Center for Health Policy at Columbia University School of Nursing. Her research and clinical interests focus on nursing quality, infection prevention and control, health policy, patient safety and quality outcomes and more — all earning her the Distinguished Nurse Researcher of the Year in 2008.

This event is an opportunity for students to learn about how it is like to work in different career fields. Speakers from prominent positions in these fields have been brought in to give students an insight into their experiences. Brochures and refreshments will be available for attendees.
